How Does Dental Care Differ Between Children and Adults?

Dental Care

While dental care in general is similar across the board, there are significant differences between most dental care provided to children and that which is provided to grown-ups. That is primarily because of the natural fact that adult teeth are quite different from the teeth of children, and since they are by nature different their care and treatment is also not going to be exactly the same.

The youngest children to see a dentist, for example, are still in the infancy years. They cannot yet brush their teeth because in most cases they do not yet have teeth – or if they do have teeth those are tiny and few. A dentist will treat an infant by cleaning the gums, instructing the parent how to care for the young baby’s teeth, and my monitoring progress as teeth begin to emerge. Once the baby teeth come in, they need to be cleaned and cared for just like adult permanent teeth do, but around age seven they naturally loosen and fall out. Dental care may involve extracting teeth that do not come out on their own accord, checking to make sure that teeth come in straight and form nicely, and performing any procedures that might be necessitated by infection of the gums.

Spicy Health Tips

Health Tips

After the holidays, health tips are coming in on the web to help people with dangerous Body Mass Indexes and Blood Sugar problems. These are serious problems for people who have high counts in these categories. Eating Well and Real Age articles have sent out articles on these two topics, which I would like to impart parts of here because they offer very good advice.

Real Age states: “Keep your heart strong and help your body get lean by jazzing up your morning beverage with a swirl of cinnamon.” For people who are more than just a little over weight and need to watch there blood sugar as well, this especially true.  This is not the only thing to do to keep your body weight at a good level and your heart strong. I will cover more about this later.

In the morning or evening when you brew a cup of coffee, cocoa or herbal tea add some cinnamon to your drink. You may find that this spice sweetens your morning drink more than you thought; and it gives an added taste to your coffee, cocoa or herbal tea. I have been adding this spice to my oatmeal in the morning. I am not overweight, but cinnamon is also a great spice to keep your cholesterol count down as well. So, if you have a high cholesterol count, you get twice the benefit from one spice.  Cloves and allspice do the same as cinnamon, but not to the same degree. They do add different flavors to your beverages. Be adventurous and try out some of these spices.

Natural Oily Skin Care

Skin Care

When you have oily skin, there is nothing more important to looking healthy than good natural skin care. While dry skin needs intense moisture, those who suffer with oily skin are plagued with too much moisture in the form of oil and the problems that come along with it. The good news is that natural oily skin care can solve these problems.

One commonly overlooked advantage of oily skin is that it does not show signs of aging as quickly as dry skin. This is due to the extra moisture provided by the overactive oil glands. Oily skin care strikes a balance between the anti-aging advantages of oily skin and getting rid of excess moisture. Oily skin care will also make your skin radiant.

People with oily skin have to clean their face often and they are usually prone to suffering from acne. Overactive oil glands can lead to acne if you do not practice good oily skin care. Grime and dirt collect quickly on oily skin, blocking pores and promoting the growth of bacteria and the formation of acne.

By removing the excess oil through oily skin care cleansing, you can help prevent acne. Cleanse your skin with a natural cleanser made from natural ingredients and warm water for best results. A homemade natural cleanser can remove dirt and grime and will work miracles on oily skin.

Herbal Medicine Explained

Medicine

Herbal Medicine: What herbal medicine can treat and how safe and effective is it?

In part I of this article we looked at what herbal medicine is and what it uses as its philosophical basis. Part II looks at what herbal medicine can be used for and its safety and effectiveness.

What can herbal medicine be used for?

Herbal medicine can be used in one of three ways:

As the primary treatment for diseases and general health problems

To preventing disease, and/or

Complementary to other natural therapies or orthodox medicine

Up until about 200 years ago, herbal extracts, teas, baths, etc., were the primary forms of treatment available to doctors. In fact Pedanius Dioscorides an ancient Greek physician, pharmacologist and botanist from Anazarbus, Cilicia, Asia Minor, wrote ‘the bible’ on herbs and early medicinal substances extracted from plants in the first century AD.

To this day, pharmaceutical companies still use herbal medicines in their drugs (they just don’t advertise that fact). He described over 600 medicinal plants, their use and actions with respect to treating diseases.

In the early 19th century, when methods of chemical analysis first became available, scientists began extracting and modifying the active ingredients from plants. Later, chemists began making their own version of plant compounds, beginning the transition from raw herbs to synthetic pharmaceuticals. Over time, the use of herbal medicines declined in favor of pharmaceuticals.ý
